Elements of Soulful Reflections:

Daily Christian Practices for Body, Mind, and Spirit

Health and provision are tools God gives His children to live purposefully, love deeply, and serve faithfully.

-Douglas Yaw Mensah

By incorporating healthy habits into our daily routine, we can create significant changes that promote more happiness and health in various aspects of our lives.

The Basics

The foundation of a happy and healthy life begins at the core necessities. We all need proper nutrition, exercise, adequate sleep, connection with others, and most importantly, our connection with God. Our health is divided among our mental health, physical health, and spiritual health. Our physical health consists of the proper functioning of the body, while our mental health consists of proper functioning of our emotional, intellectual, psychological, and social wellbeing. One’s spiritual health embodies the connection to our heavenly Father and forms our core beliefs and values; overall giving us our sense of purpose in life.

Daily Habits to Incorporate
  • “Prayer” Prayer is our form of communication with God. Prayer builds relationship with Jesus, offers us peace and guidance, and gives us spiritual maturity. During prayer is how many of us find spiritual alignment with God’s plan for our lives.
  • “Forgiveness” Forgiveness for ourselves and others offers us freedom from the weight of pain and our past. This in itself helps us to move forward rather than being stuck in unforgiveness. This leads to the release of unnecessary stress and restoration. Forgiveness also leads to healing pasta trauma and restoring peace within.
  • “Practicing Gratitude” Gratitude reaches aspects of our lives in more ways than many of us realize. Practicing gratitude can turn the most difficult times into times of true peace. It can be one habit that reminds us that God’s promises are still true; a habit that encourages us to look beyond our circumstances in order to envision a future of promise. In the most challenging moments of our lives is where we often build up our faith and resilience.
  • “Being in The Word of God.” Time in God’s Word are some of the most important moments in a believer’s life. When we read the Word, we gain wisdom and understanding. We draw closer to God in Spirit as we open such a powerful book, for the word is flesh dwelling among us as it embodies his message to the world. The Word is our ultimate source of truth, as well as contributing source of connection to the Spirit of God. “Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth” John 17:17
  • “Worship” Worship is such an incredible form of honor. In our times of worship is often where we encounter the presence of God so deeply and personally, that it can be hard to fully describe how much of an impact it truly has. Worship is the reconnection that we all crave and need deeply in our everyday life.
  • “Acts of service” Acts of service unto others are acts of selfless actions that reflect God’s love to humanity. One of the most important commandments aside from loving God with all our heart is to love others as yourself. Serving others is a perfect way to exemplify Jesus, as we put others first. As we give back to the community, we truly honor and serve God in doing this.

Ultimately, healthy habits are essential for maintaining balance, as healthy practices contribute significantly to a believer’s wellbeing. A healthy lifestyle is the foundation for happiness and fulfillment.

Scripture:

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Philippians 4:13 “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Ephesians 3:22-24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
